The 2026 Paint Colour Forecast for Refinished Furniture

Warm clay, soft umber, deep aubergine, mossy greens, and dusty plaster whites. The colours defining 2026 refinished dressers, sideboards, and armoires are quieter, moodier, and far more sophisticated than the cool greys of the last decade.

The 2026 Paint Colour Forecast for Refinished Furniture

If the 2010s belonged to cool grey and the early 2020s to greige, 2026 belongs to warmth. The palette of the year for refinished furniture is plaster, clay, claret, and moss — colours pulled from earth and pigment rather than digital screens, and colours that flatter the warm-toned interiors taking over Calgary homes.

Warm whites with a dusty undertone are quietly replacing the bluish whites that dominated for a decade. On a refurbished buffet or dresser, a plaster-toned white reads as calm rather than clinical. It pairs effortlessly with natural oak tops, antique brass hardware, and the linen and wool textiles that define the current Calgary interior look.

Deep claret is the standout colour of 2026 for statement dressers and tallboys. It carries the same quiet sophistication as deep navy but with a warmth that reads almost neutral against ivory bedding and oat-coloured walls. Refinished claret pieces are the studio's most-requested commission of the year.

Mossy olive and forest green continue their multi-year run. On sideboards, armoires, and dining buffets, green refinishes beautifully because it shifts with the light — reading nearly black at night and softening to a herbaceous mid-tone in daylight. It is the most forgiving colour you can put on a piece of refurbished furniture.

Soft umber, mushroom, and clay sit somewhere between paint and stain. On nightstands and small tables they read as quiet, sophisticated neutrals; on armoires and larger case goods they bring an earthen depth that grey never quite delivered. This is the colour family Calgary clients keep returning to once they see it in person.

What unites the 2026 palette is restraint. None of these colours shout. All of them age gracefully. And all of them photograph beautifully in the Calgary light, which is part of why refinished furniture in these tones has been quietly dominating the city's most thoughtful interiors.

About Vibrant Vintage Furnishings

A Calgary refurbished furniture studio

Vibrant Vintage Furnishings is a Calgary-based refurbishment studio specialising in hand-restored vintage furniture — dressers, nightstands, buffets, armoires, sideboards, and dining tables. Every piece is personally sourced from estate sales and farm auctions across Alberta, then refinished in-studio using old-world craftsmanship: hand-sanded surfaces, layered milk-paint and lacquer finishes, restored original hardware, and joinery rebuilt to last another century. Our refurbished furnishings are quietly trusted by Calgary homeowners, designers, and stylists looking for one-of-a-kind solid-wood pieces that anchor a room.
